Parent Support Meetings

Our Parent Support meetings are a great way to reach out and build relationships with other parents and family members of disabled children. View our Parent Support page to learn more about upcoming meetings.

Training provided by Special Kids, Inc.:

SKI offers a variety of great training classes for parents and families of Special Needs children. Here are a few classes we hold on a regular basis:

  • June-July 2008: Camp OMBC at Outreach Missionary Baptist Church S.E.E.D. Center 5055 Belfort St Houston, TX 77033.  This is an inclusion camp but child must be higher functioning. Program includes spiritual enrichment, fun activities, and field trips each week. Lunch and a snack is served everyday. A small fee will be assessed to offset cost of trips and materials.  Volunteers are needed and space is limited. Registration will began in May.  Contact: Quisa Wyatt, Camp Coordinator at 713 734-5355.  Look for more information and updates in the newsletter.

Other Volunteer Opportunities with SKI:

The Agnes Johnson Technology Center, Location: 2600 South Loop West Suite #340, Hours: Mon-Thur 4pm to 7pm Volunteers needed for tech center. Contact: Diona Poledore, Volunteer Coordinator 713-734-5355.

Volunteers needed to start and coordinate SKI in Public Schools (SIPS); parent groups in local area schools. This is a parent support group. Parents of children in Special Education coming together to share information, experiences, resources and to support each other. Light refreshments are served (coffee and donuts), information is provided as well as resources and updates on what new with the Dept of Ed and TEA in regards to special education services and other news. Meetings are held at least one time monthly. The coordinator of each school will set the schedule and activities. Parents are their child's first line of defense in getting the services needed to be successful in school. If you want to start a SIPS in your school, contact our office for more information.
